Italian ranks among the top 3 favorite cuisines for Lesley and I. We both have our favorite dishes, sauces, and pastas. Sometimes, however, it’s hard to choose when a dinner menu offers so many delicious possibilities as was the case at Luigi’s Trattoria. With a prime location in the heart of Myrtle Beach, Luigi’s is a family-owned restaurant offering tasty food, friendly staff, and beautiful decor.
We couldn’t wait to taste all the succulent food we learned was all made fresh to order. We started off our culinary experience with their Bruschetta a La Pomodoro, consisting of homemade bread with sliced tomatoes, fresh basil, fresh Asiago cheese, olive oil, and garlic. Once appetizer promptly arrived at our table, we realized we wouldn’t have a need to eat for days afterwards; the servings were both generous and irresistible. Even Athena was all cheers for their Bruschetta.
Next came the amazing minestrone soup. Full of flavor, it became obvious that this was made using the finest fresh ingredients.
As the waiter discussed their entree options, he went over their daily specials. Being a big fan of seafood, one in particular caught my immediate attention: Zuppa de Pesce. This mouth-watering dish was no ordinary chowder; it came with half-lobster tail, large shrimp, calamari, clams, mussels, scallops, and scungilli in a red sauce over linguine pasta. All the of the seafood was perfectly cooked and oozed with juices and flavor. The pasta was cooked to perfection while the red sauce was the ideal complement. Every bite was an orchestra of flavors. It’s a good thing Athena pinched me because I thought I was dreaming.
Lesley’s Fettuccine Alfredo was equally appealing to her palette. She raved about the flavor of the Alfredo sauce, describing it as “magical”, the consistency of the fettuccine noodles, as well as the incredibly juicy blackened chicken.
We finished off the evening with their Tiramisu, one of our all-time favorite desserts, and this particular one did not disappoint. Drizzled with delicious chocolate sauce, infinitely moist and light, each morsel was savored and nothing was left but a bare plate.
With over eleven different choices of appetizers, soups & salads, pasta, daily specials, fresh veal, chicken and seafood, and let’s not forget over 51 choices of bottles of wine and over 27 wines served by the glass, Luigi’s has something for everyone. With authentic Italian cuisine where all dishes are made to order and very reasonably priced, we are already making plans to visit Myrtle Beach and Luigi’s soon, yet not soon enough!
